About Me
I am a Marriage and Family Therapist Intern (IMF#49157) registered with the California Board of Behavioral Sciences (BBS). As an Intern, I have to work under the supervision of a licensed therapist. I am currently under the supervision of Rosemary Ehat, MFC#29007 at The Psychotherapy Institute. I am also a member of California Association for Marriage and Family Therapist (CAMFT) for the statewide, East Bay and San Francisco chapters.
Though I currently provide mostly Psychodynamic depth psychotherapy with individuals and couples, I am familiar with and utilize Existentialist, Cognitive-Behavioral, Family Systems, and Expressive Arts approaches. I believe in individualizing services for each person’s needs rather than a set formula for every client. In today’s world, we live in diverse community where developmental and socio-cultural issues greatly influence personal experiences, so I integrate these considerations in my work. While I am familiar with clinical disorders and their treatments, my focus has generally been on the person’s resilience. I admire and appreciate the survival abilities of each person in face of their difficulties, and believe in the growth potential of each person. Thus, I try to be holistic with my approach, and consider not just mental or biological causes and interventions, but also social, cultural, psychological, and spiritual aspects. I approach my sessions with a focus on my relationship with the clients, and how to utilize it to create a therapeutic space for my clients. To me, therapy and counseling is not just about solving problems, but also about personal growth and awareness.
My professional interests are in Trauma (such as childhood abuse, war/refugee experiences, community violence, and other various forms of trauma), Life Transitions (such as grief and loss, developmental shifts, adjustment issues related to immigration and cross-cultural experiences, and various other forms of coping with new changes in life), Identity/Personality Development, Relationships and Sexuality, and the Psychological Processes of Creativity. I am curious and love to learn so I often take on new courses and workshops to upgrade my knowledge in various topics in my field. I believe this is crucial in providing the best care and service for my clients.
