“One man may hit the mark, another blunder; but heed
not these distinctions. Only from the alliance of
the one, working with and through the other, are
great things born.” – Antoine de Saint-Exupery
In the San Francisco Bay Area, we live in great diversity and are faced with challenges around differences when interacting with others, even those close to us. These differences can come in many forms, from cultural and familial history to personal values and expectations. I see the person as a whole, with his or her uniqueness stemming from individual personality, family background, cultural context, and current circumstances he or she is facing. The uniqueness, though it defines us, can be anxiety-inducing when we realize we are alone in our experiences. However, it also means we are the master of our own world, including the world of family, friends and work.
My approach focuses on creating a safe and holding environment, so that there can be exploration of underlying motivations and beliefs that drive the problematic patterns in the person’s experiences. With such awareness, the person can become more conscious of his or her relational patterns to self and others, and be empowered to break the negative cycles that have become stuck. I believe in helping the person develop their whole self, building resiliency in face of life challenges, so that he or she can fully participate in life, love and work. To me, therapy is not just about solving problems, but also about personal growth and awareness.
